The Emergent Leader
One early morning, while thinking deeply and mourning, Eli kept asking: There was none whom Perez had laid hands on to succeed him: What shall we do? What will happen to the congregation?
Just swiftly, about two hours past midnight, Eli thought of a verse in the Scriptures, about laying on of hands. He immediately consulted the Bible and called up Bernabe Nieto to be his transcriber. That same hour, Eli wrote the topic, “The Reason Why the Members of the Church of God, the Pillar and the Ground of Truth, would be able to move on without someone who had been delivered to take the place of a former leader according to the Bible.”
Eli delivered the theme in the ministerial class of the church workers, and though they were not accustomed to applauding during lectures, all of the workers resoundingly clapped their hands and so did all the members when it was taught to the whole congregation.
The brethren then regained morale; their hearts were set once again on high spirits. From then on, workers expressed that Eli should preside. They told him that he was the only one worthy to succeed Perez in leading the church. Eli, repeatedly declined to the proposal saying that he isn’t worthy for the task. This was never Eli’s ambition.
Believing that the brethren were waiting for Eli and that the majority trusted him, the group of the women started to secretly defame Eli among the members. Slowly, the brethren lost faith on Eli. However, the elders who did not subject themselves to the rule of women took sides with him. Finally, the church divided.
The congregation eventually split into three parts. Eli was much depressed, asking why such things had happened to them, even blaming Perez of leaving them unprepared. It only became clear later on that such event was the realization of an undeniable truth in the Holy Writ, the fulfillment of a great prophecy that unfolded before his very eyes.
