Television Broadcast
The Old Path took a much higher step in propagating the gospel when it was broadcast on a local television station, the Intercontinental Broadcasting Channel (IBC) 13 sometime in 1984. It gained the attention of various viewers, and this alarmed Bro. Eli’s enemies greatly to the extent of them using their influence to preempt the program in the late 1980’s.
Behind the television production of The Old Path was a series of hardships, yet a fruitful endeavor for a team only composed then of three people: Eli as the speaker and consultant; Daniel Razon as the program director, cameraman, lightman, and editor; and Luzviminda Cruz as the executive producer, researcher, set decorator, and even as make-up artist. Due to lack of broadcast equipment, the three-man team was forced to be creative in order to improvise some unavailable equipment just to carry on with the production.
The quality of the first several video presentations was being criticized because of its technical inferiorities. There were times when the recording needed to be repeated after they taped some irrelevant noises from the background like the chirping of birds and insects and the barking of dogs. In one instance, Bro. Eli, who had persuasively spoken for the whole hour, would find out that his effort was wasted as accidents sometimes happen in the production due to technical problem.
The Old Path, after temporarily being stopped due to unwanted circumstances, returned to television in 1988 to continue its noble mission of spreading the undefiled gospel of Christ. It went on live telecast over IBC 13, aired at 3pm and 1am. Opponents who were once again alarmed for the program’s return on television gathered and teamed up to make a petition to IBC 13 management to cancel airing it – and they succeeded.
However, The Old Path program found a new home at RJTV 29, being aired on primetime slots from 8pm to 12midnight. Many people were accommodated during its live telecast every Tuesday and Friday in the studio for their biblical queries and even personal questions.
Bro. Eli’s truthful and fearless program all the more challenged the enemies to find ways to impede once again its airing that forced the staff to move the program from one station to another. It was then being aired at PTV 4 and SBN 21. Now, UNTV 37 airs the program.
